Use advice for data set The users are invited to assess the suitability of the LCI in relation to the aims of their analysis, in particular on the following points: scope covered (which includes all the steps from WEEE collection points to the production of the recycled PS, recycled plastics format (granulate format here), suitable application to the material evaluated (since recycled material can be sourced from different waste sectors and can undergo various formulations during compounding steps to reach specific material properties), geographical representativeness (processes may have different impacts and performance levels if the WEEE collected or the regeneration steps are handled in one or more countries with regulatory frameworks or technology level different to France and Europe). The only additives taken into account in theis LCI are the colour masterbatch and an impact modifier. If the future users of these LCIs use recycled plastics incorporating other additives (e.g. flame retardants, anti-oxidants), it is up to them to carry out this additional modelling by themselves.

Data set use approval

General comment This dataset represents the production of recycled polystyrene (rPS) from household Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) collected in France in the context of French WEEE producer responsibility organisation and regenerated in Europe. It includes all the management phases from the collection of WEEE at collection points to the final regeneration of the rPS under granulate format. The regeneration steps, including separation of non plastics materials contained in incoming mixed plastics, separation and extra-sorting of targeted plastics, compounding, extrusion and granulation are included up to the point where the granulate is ready for transportation to the customer. Packaging of the granulate is not included (for example big-bag). This rPS is a ready-to-use granulate that can be used to manufacture plastic parts, especially electrical and electronic equipment parts. In terms of perimeter, the data include only environmental burdens. No substitution benefits related to the substitution of virgin material by the recycled material is included in the dataset. Benefits from avoided end-of-life thanks to recycling are also not included.
